26 But the Comforter, which
is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all
things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto
you. (John 14:26)
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the
Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall
testify of me: (John 15:26)
Ruach ha-Kodesh is the Comforter. He is the Spirit of truth.
What did Israel know about the Comforter and comfort?
12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be
afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as
grass; (Isaiah 51:12)
1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to
preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the
prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our
God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD,
that he might be glorified. (Isaiah 61:1-3)
16 For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because
the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are
desolate, because the enemy prevailed. (Lam. 1:16)
"What is his [the Messiah's] name? — The School of R. Shila said: His name
is Shiloh, for it is written, until Shiloh come. The School of R. Yannai said:
His name is Yinnon, for it is written, His name shall endure for ever: e'er the
sun was, his name is Yinnon. The School of R. Haninah maintained: His name is
Haninah, as it is written, Where I will not give you Haninah. Others say: His
name is Menahem the son of Hezekiah, for it is written, Because Menahem ['the
comforter'], that would relieve my soul, is far." (Sanhedrin 98b http://www.come-and-hear.com/sanhedrin/sanhedrin_98.html)
1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. (Isaiah 40:1)
13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O
mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted. (Isaiah 49:13)
9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the
LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. (Isaiah 52:9)
13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be
comforted in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 66:13) etc.
